A lot of people feel like they’re drowning in email—too many to build, too many to test, and too many inefficiencies to feel like they’re making progress. We hear you.
That’s why the latest release from Litmus is all about giving you the tools to create a more efficient email production process. From previewing GIFs in Proof to quickly creating full campaigns with reusable modules, Litmus empowers you to build and test campaigns without all of the headaches.
To talk through (and show off!) the latest Litmus updates, we sat down with Scott Epple, a Principal Product Manager, and Carin Slater, our Email Marketing Specialist at Litmus. Scott walks us through improvements to snippets and partials in Builder, animated GIF support in Proof, and how to quickly preview from within Pardot, while Carin gives us a quick demo of how she uses Litmus to build a real Litmus email campaign in minutes.

Q&A
What’s the difference between snippets and partials?
While snippets and partials are similar—in that they are saved bits of code that you can pull into your email campaigns—they differ in one key way: The code in a snippet is editable in individual campaigns, while partial code isn’t exposed until export. Partials let you lock down different parts of your email and are perfect for things that don’t change often, like headers, footers, and disclaimers. Snippets are great for just about anything else, like buttons, articles, and product modules. When a snippet is expanded in your email, you can update and customize that code directly in that email—swapping out content and styles as needed.
How do pixel and UTM tracking codes differ?
Although both allow you to track and analyze your email campaigns, the tracking pixel added in Litmus Builder is specific to Litmus Email Analytics, while UTM tracking codes allow you to track your campaigns with other tools like Google Analytics.
UTM parameters are added at the end of links within a campaign and tools like Google Analytics use those parameters to categorize activity that results from subscribers clicking on links within your email.
The tracking pixel from Email Analytics, on the other hand, is used by Litmus to track engagement, rendering engines, and geolocations—among other things—when using Litmus. You can read more about tracking and analyzing your campaigns using Litmus here.
Is there a standard snippet library we can use?
We don’t provide prebuilt snippets or partials within Litmus, since everyone’s campaigns are unique and both necessarily need to be built with your own use case in mind. That being said, a lot of email marketers have shared snippet and partial examples on the Litmus Community and on platforms like GitHub. Searching online will give you plenty of ideas for building up your own snippet and partial library within Litmus!
